Owner Carl Balzer saved this once-dignified German sedan from the scrapyard, stripped it down to its most basic elements and then went to town creating a bonkers build. These days it's a street legal 1200bhp E36 go kart packing a massively turbocharged LS engine under its er, lack of bonnet. With all that power and a differential from an old M5, this thing is quite the drift machine. But you wouldn't, would you, because this one has been specially built by legendary British rally engineers M-Sport to compete in the World Rally Championship’s new era of hybrid racing. With its 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine boosted with a battery-powered electric motor, the Puma Hybrid Rally1 produces north of 500bhp. That means 0-60mph in the low 3s on pretty much any surface, as Chris Harris will now demonstrate on some snow.
