We’ve brought the 2021 & 2022 season cars together, along with the classic AE86, and they’re going to go head-to-head over a series of three challenges! First up we have Mat in the 2021 season Corolla, which is powered by a 2-litre turbocharged 4 cylinder engine to deliver 370hp & 400Nm of torque. It’s FWD and weighs in at 1,270kg. What’s more, if Mat were to crash it, it’d cost about £250,000 to replace!! Alongside him we have the 2022 season car, which is mostly identical to the current season car. However, it’s got one key advantage – it includes an EV motor that’ll deliver an extra 40hp for 15 second bursts! And then finally we have the classic AE86. It may only have a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine that delivers 182hp, but it also only weighs 800kg! Does it stand a chance? Its 25kWh battery pack will also allow you to drive for over 60 miles on electric power alone! As for the BMW, the engine size is the same, but it can only put down 292hp. Its battery pack is also much smaller, at 12kWh. And then finally we have the Tesla. It’s the entry-level Standard Range Plus model, so it only has a single electric motor which provides 272hp. This humungous all-American import measures in at almost 6 metres long, and Mat’s about to take it through a full in-depth review to see if you should consider importing one! (At least, if you live out of the US, that is). So what do you need to know? Well for starters, there are two engines to choose from, but there’s only one you need to really consider – the huge 6.2-litre V8! It’s a huge engine to fit a huge car, but sadly, the power output seemingly doesn't match up to the size… It only puts out 420hp & 623Nm! But of course, if you’re considering a car this large, you’re probably more interested in the quality of the interior. And trust us, the Escalade doesn’t disappoint! Not only is it super roomy, but the dash and infotainment system all run pretty well and are dominated by huge screens. Well once you see the stats you’ll realise there’s a method behind our madness! As for the Arteon, well the engine size is much smaller! It’s powered by a 2-litre 4 cylinder turbo petrol engine which can produce 320hp & 420Nm.
