FIRST DRIVE: MG Cyberster – 335bhp, £50k, RWD and Scissor Doors!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbTXrhA5DJ0

Indelibly linked with the MGB sports car of the 1960s and ‘70s, MG is now better known as the purveyor of practical cars at the affordable end of the market. Until now… You’re looking at a sports car that neither Porsche nor Tesla have managed to put into production yet: a two-door open-top with punchy electric power. It’s a halo car for MG, with svelte styling (complete with scissor doors) and single- and dual-motor powertrain options. We’ll likely see Porsche’s forthcoming electric Boxster and the much-delayed Tesla Roadster towards the end of 2024, but production of either won’t start until 2025. Which means, for now, the MG Cyberster has the market all to itself. But what’s it like to drive? To bring you one of the very first reviews in the world, Top Gear Magazine’s Tom Ford has been all the way to China to try it… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WATCH MORE TOP GEAR:

FIRST LOOK: Mercedes EQG – Tank Turns And ALL The Torque

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mE_ZnkOgx8M

This is an electric G-class. The Mercedes EQG, as it was once called. It’s now, officially though, the Mercedes G580 with EQ Technology – which is a name no one will ever use. Either way, a big battery and quad motors turn every celeb’s favourite urban cruiser into an electric heavyweight with zero tailpipe emissions. The G580 name means it sits a rung below the G63 AMG model in the G-class range, but with over 800lb ft over torque and an electric motor for each wheel its party trick is on-the-spot ‘tank turns’. A look-at-me viral # beckons, but does the addition of this all-electric version make for a better Mercedes G-class? Top Gear Magazine’s Deputy Editor, Ollie Kew, is your guide… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WATCH MORE TOP GEAR:

FIRST DRIVE: New Tesla Model 3 Performance – Over 500bhp For £59k!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Srx6VvuKU7c

Range has long been a Tesla forte. Ridiculous acceleration, too. But what about the sort of delectable handling that a BMW M3 serves up? Tesla boss Elon Musk claimed the last Tesla Model 3 Performance was 15% quicker than the equivalent M3, and with better handling – but we’d take the BMW over it for one last lap of a racetrack. Now there’s a new Model 3 Performance though, and Tesla contends it’s much more of a super-saloon than ever before. Over to Top Gear Magazine’s editor-in-chief, Jack Rix, to find out how it stacks up… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WATCH MORE TOP GEAR:

FIRST DRIVE: Porsche Macan Turbo – As Fast As A 911 GT3!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxc3dzwpQsY

This is Porsche’s most important launch since the Mk1 Cayenne. Why? Because even as a decade-old model at the end of its life, Porsche shifted 87,355 units of its smaller SUV in 2023, just a few hundred shy of the Cayenne. But now the second-gen Macan is going electric, and the buying public hasn’t wholly embraced EVs… Perhaps more challenging still, while the last Macan was priced from £54k to £73k in the UK, the new one starts at £70k and runs up to exactly £95,000 for the range-topping Turbo model (which doesn’t have a turbocharger anywhere near it). Sure, you get more performance, but the last Macan was a (relatively) affordable entry point into practical Porsche ownership; the new one is only £600 cheaper than a Cayenne! So it’s electric, and expensive. Can the tech impress and the dynamics dazzle enough to tempt potential buyers? Top Gear Magazine’s Tom Ford has the answers…

FIRST DRIVE: Hyundai Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup – Hot Hatch Gets A Whole Lot Faster

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00TnpQu5-Ac

We’re big fans of Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N hot hatch, because it’s about the most fun you can have in an EV. Fake gears, 10-second bursts of extra power, and a drift mode, all sound like gimmicks, but together they make for one engaging hot hatch. But what if the 5 N was turned up to 11? Enter the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup race car. It keeps the production 5 N’s battery and motors – so it’s still good for 641bhp. But out goes anything superfluous, and in comes a roll cage, a racing seat, slicks, and a whole lot of aero add-ons. Weight goes down 10%, grip goes way up! All the novel gimmicks – like N Drift Optimiser – are gone, because this is a focused race car. Yet at the same time, Hyundai wants this to be an affordable race car, so prices will start under €100,000. It’s starting a one-make championship in Korea, too, and it’ll be a live test-bed as Hyundai hopes to find a path towards making electric racing fun. Teams will be able to choose the sound their cars make, and taking an idea from gaming, race officials can punish you mid-race with less power for over-aggressive driving. Will it work? Top Gear Magazine’s Deputy Editor, Ollie Kew, has been to find out… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WATCH MORE TOP GEAR:

Japan’s Weirdest Car Meet?! We Visit Mad Renault Kangoo Festival

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBdfnyHt52Q

For over a decade, Japan has been hosting the world's largest gathering of Renault Kangoos. Yes, really! And while the inaugural event attracted just a few hundred fans, in this 14th year of the Kangoo Jamboree, there were nearly 2,000 Kangoo models on show and more than 5,000 visitors. One of those was Top Gear Magazine’s Tom Ford, who joined the thousands at the foot of Mount Fuji to discover why these Japanese owners and enthusiasts are so passionate about a small French van with sliding side doors. Over to Tom, in a very sodden field… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WATCH MORE TOP GEAR:
