With a potent 401-hp turbocharged five-cylinder engine, the 2022 Audi RS3 is the raciest version of the company's small luxury sedan. Based on the four-door Audi A3 and the sportier S3–but blessed with even more power and enhanced chassis tuning–the new RS variant challenges hi-po rivals such as the BMW M2 coupe and Mercedes-AMG CLA45 sedan. However, the RS3's unusual engine gives it one of the most distinct soundtracks in its class. The Audi's sharply creased sheetmetal as well as its stylish, nicely appointed interior help it appeal to audiences who appreciate sportiness as much as luxuriousness. What's New for 2022?
After a hiatus for the 2021 model year, the sportiest variant of Audi's smallest sedan returns for 2022. The RS3 enters its second generation in the U.S. and draws largely from the totally redesigned A3 and S3. While the three share a platform, interior dimensions, and many similar features, the A3 is powered by a 201-hp turbo four and the S3 has a 306-hp version of the same mill. Engine, Transmission, and Performance
One of the most distinct elements of the RS3 is its unusual five-cylinder engine. Its odd number of cylinders give it a unique thrumming soundtrack that was particularly pleasing on the outgoing model. The latest iteration is again a turbocharged 2.5-liter, but it now makes 401 horsepower. The engine pairs with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that deliberately downshifts with slight throttle inputs, but it behaves less aggressively during hard braking. Its standard all-wheel-drive system includes a torque-vectoring rear differential with a drift mode. Unfortunately, getting the RS3's tail to kick out requires dedication and can be difficult to maintain. Compared with the lesser A3 and S3, the sportiest 3 has upgraded brakes, a stiffer suspension setup, and a unique set of wheels on stickier performance tires. The RS3 we drove produced exhilarating sounds, and the car's feisty nature was evident at the racetrack. Plus, it was composed and comfortable when driven sedately on regular roads. Inside, the RS3's passenger space is identical to the A3 and S3, but it has a set of more aggressively bolstered front seats. Audi endows all versions with a dashboard that looks anything but bland. A pair of high-mounted air vents face the driver and flank the instrument panel binnacle that houses a set of digital gauges. The RS3 is also available with a heads-up display. Below the center touchscreen are climate controls with physical buttons, and there's a bin below them that's integrated into the center console. Unfortunately, drivers have to select gears via a weird, stubby shifter; paddles on the steering wheel are an alternative once the RS3 is in motion.

Based on the infotainment system employed by the A3 and S3, the RS3 has a 10.1-inch touchscreen mounted in the middle of the dash. It can be controlled through touch inputs, buttons on the steering wheel, and voice commands. It also includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Built-in navigation, a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless phone charging are on the roster, too.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features The RS3 offers a mix of standard driver-assistance technology as well as options such as adaptive cruise control and automatic high-beam headlights.

It’s the lightest car here, at 1,435kg, and it’s also the cheapest, at £128,000. But just like the GT2 RS, it’s also only equipped with RWD! This ultra-luxury sedan is a worthy rival to the Bentley Flying Spur and the Rolls-Royce Ghost, and it offers more high-end features than we can list. A pair of twin-turbo engines are on offer—a V-8 and a V-12—and all models come with all-wheel drive. The stretched body makes it ideal for being chauffeured, especially with the optional reclining and massaging rear seats, which beckon riders to relax and live their best lives. While its rivals have more curb appeal the Maybach S-class's styling is tame by contrast, allowing it to slip into traffic without drawing too much attention. What's New for 2022? A V-12 engine option returns to the Maybach lineup for 2022 in the form of the S680 4Matic sedan. The V-12 engine is rated for 621-hp and is said to propel the big limo to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. Mercedes-Maybach has told Car and Driver that certain 2022 models normally offered with V-8 engines will not be available. The S580 may be impacted by this change to the lineup, but representatives from Mercedes-Maybach would not comment or confirm that information by press time.
If you're gonna go with a Maybach version of the S-class, you might as well go big and get the S680 and its powerful V-12 engine. Standard features are of course plentiful and include luxury items such as soft-close doors, an air suspension, a 30-speaker Burmester stereo system, and a rear-seat entertainment system with two 11.6-inch touchscreens and much, much more. Engine, Transmission, and Performance Under the hood of every S580 sedan is a 496-hp twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine, which is augmented by a 48-volt hybrid system. Going with the S680 swaps in a 621-hp 6.0-liter V-12. All models will come with Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel drive system. The V-8 makes 33 more horsepower than the old S560 from 2020, and judging from our brief test drive, it packs quite a punch. The V-12's power rating is the same as the 2020 S650 model and does not benefit from a 48-volt hybrid system. We haven't had a chance to test either model's performance but when we do we'll update this story with driving impressions and test results. An air suspension and an active sound cancellation system are both standard in the new model, which helps the car deliver a silky, ultra-quiet ride; the S-class also offers rear-wheel steering which should help with navigating this big sedan through tight city streets. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo The Maybach S-class has a seven-inch longer wheelbase than the already-large Benz-branded S-class sedan, which provides even more stretch-out space inside its leather-lined cabin. So many luxury features are standard in the Maybach we couldn't possibly list them all here, but all models will come with exquisite leather on virtually every interior surface; a 64-color interior ambient lighting system; heated and ventilated front seats with massage and four-position memory settings; heated rear seats with power adjustments and massage; an air ionizing system with a signature fragrance; and a panoramic sunroof. For buyers who intend to be chauffeured, Maybach can add the optional Executive Rear Seat Plus package, which includes rear-seat folding tables, an extended center console, additional rear-seat wood trim, and temperature controlled cup holders. Also optional are electrically-operated rear doors, a refrigerator, and Maybach-branded champagne flutes. Infotainment and Connectivity Like the Benz S-class, the Maybach comes standard with Mercedes's latest MBUX infotainment interface displayed on a 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is also standard, and all models also come with an augmented-reality navigation system that displays easy-to-follow video directions on both the infotainment display and the car's head-up display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with wireless connectivity, 6 USB-C ports, a 30-speaker Burmester stereo system, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and a rear-seat entertainment system are all standard features.
