While the Evo VI we have here is the Tommi Makinen edition (due to him previously winning the WRC in an Evo VI), he was also Team Principal for the Toyota Gazoo Racing, a rally team currently leading the WRC! ……………………………………………………. This is the all-new Hyundai i20! Hyundai have given their small hatchback a total revamp, and it’s got the likes of the Volkswagen Polo & Ford Fiesta in its sights! The question is, doesit have what it takes to topple these class leaders? As for the looks, well it’s certainly more striking! The new grille gives it much more aggressive look, as do the creases that have now been added to the bodywork. Unfortunately, the aggression doesn't continue under the bonnet. The i20 only comes with one engine choice – a 1-litre 3 cylinder turbo-petrol that comes with mild-hybrid technology. It only puts down 100hp, although the hybrid tech will help give you a little boost through the starter motor. Although, let’s be honest, you probably don’t need too much ‘oomph’ if you’re buying an i20! So what do you think – do we have a potential new class leader on our hands? ……………………………………………………. This is the new Mercedes EQA! You can probably already tell it’s based on the Mercedes GLA, but of course, there’s one key difference – the EQA is all-electric! The question is, should you really consider paying several thousand pounds more to go electric? Well, the EQA has a 66.5kWh battery pack which powers a single front motor. This can produce 190hp and 375Nm of torque. Four-wheel-drive variants are due to in the future, but for now, you’ll have to settle with front-wheel-drive only. When it comes to powering up your EQA, it has the ability to charge up to 100kWh, which will help boost your battery from 10% to 80% full in just 30 minutes, which isn’t too bad! As for interior space & practicality, well, it’s all pretty similar to the GLA, although you may have to compromiseimise a little on space to accommodate the battery pack! ……………………………………………………. This is the all-new Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo… And it just might be the most practical EV in the world! It’s the estate version of Porsche’s first all-electric car, and it’s clearly borrowed heavily from the Mission E Cross Turismo Concept that was first shown in 2018. In terms of practicality, there’s a host of new features, from a completely new roof (with optional roof rails), along with the ability to add a bike rack. The size of the boot has also increased (although, not massively!) to 446-litres. Looking to go off-road? Then the Taycan Cross Turismo sport has you covered, with an all-new ‘gravel’ driving mode which raises the ride height of the car to handle any non-tarmac trails you try to conquer! Elsewhere, it pretty much business as usual. The interior is largely the same, and when it comes to performance, the range-topping Turbo S can deliver 625hp, which increases to 761hp when you enable boost mode!
