The Top Gear Test Track has played host to multiple fast, modified Mustangs in the past – and this one is now officially the fastest. It’s the CS850R, Clive Sutton’s upgraded version of its already upgraded Ford Mustang (the CS850GT) and it has been optimised, just like The Stig, for track driving. CS takes the base Ford Mustang and its 5.0-litre V8, and adds a bespoke Whipple supercharger, intercooler and active exhaust. That increases power from the standard 454bhp to an alarming 847bhp and 665lb ft of torque. Get ready for some serious supercharger whine… Back in 2007 the Shelby GT500 set a 1:30.0, and the Roush Mustang upgraded to a 1:28.0. This is Peugeot’s finished 9X8 endurance racing Hypercar, and yes, there’s still no rear wing. Peugeot reckons it can generate enough ground effect with clever under-body aero alone. Pretty impressive considering the 9X8 is a 671bhp endurance racer that weighs just over a tonne… The 9X8 conforms to the ACO and FIA’s Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) class and is four-wheel drive, with a 2.6-litre twin-turbo V6 powering the rear wheels and a bespoke, high performance electric motor on the fronts.
