The question is, does this all-new sports car have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with the class leader? Well for starters, let’s take a closer look at the design. Up top the front end has been redesigned, and you’ll find a carbon fibre splitter down below, along with vents on the bonnet to help release air that comes in through the trademark Aston Martin grille. There are all-new matrix LED headlights, and all the vents you see serve a purpose. Around the back, there’s a large light bar along with a ducktail spoiler, and across the side, there are some extended side skirts. All-in-all, it looks fantastic! Step inside and the interior set-up is very similar to recent Aston Martin releases like the DB12. The centre console comes covered in a multitude of buttons and rollers, and they’re all built to a high standard! Aston Martin now also has its own infotainment system, although if we’re being honest, it’s not exactly the best. Thankfully though that’s the only real negative of the interior. The cabin is built to a high standard using soft touch, and nice-quality materials throughout, and as you’d expect, the seats are super comfortable. Then we get to the power source – the glorious 4-litre twin-turbo V8! It may be the same AMG unit as found in the previous car, but Aston Martin has been allowed to go to work with it for this new release. As a result, it comes with bigger turbos, and now produces 665hp and 800Nm! That’s 150hp more than the previous Vantage! Naturally, all of this quality comes at a cost, with the new Vantage starting from £165,000. So is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself! Chapters

Aston Martin never seems to be stable, with every bit of good news followed by bad. Fernando Alonso has signed a long-term deal with its Formula 1 team… but the on-track results aren’t a patch on 12 months ago. After the facelift Vantage we drive here, a revised version of the DBX SUV follows… but in this transition phase to new models, Aston’s Q1 2024 sales dropped by a quarter. And on and on it goes. If the new Vantage is to break that cycle, it needs to be a sure-fire hit, with no ‘ifs’ and no ‘buts’. To do that, Aston has moved it out of Porsche 911 GTS territory, upping the old car’s twin-turbo V8 from 503bhp to 656bhp. It’s now more powerful than a 911 Turbo S – and with only two driven wheels, quite a starting point for an ‘entry level’ Aston Martin sports car… The looks are lairier too, and banished is the creaky Mercedes-sourced infotainment system, replaced by Aston’s own tech. But it’ll count for nowt if the overhauled chassis can’t handle all that power.
