We’re starting with the Mk1 R8 V8 from 2007. It’s powered by a 4.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8 that can produce 414hp and 430Nm. This power is sent to all four wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox, and when new the starting price was just over £78,000. Moving forward to the latest car, we have the R8 GT Mk2. It arrives packing a 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10, and this can put down 620hp and 565Nm. This power is sent to the rear wheels only via a 7-speed automatic gearbox, and as new the car costs a staggering £200,000! In between the two, we’ve got all other generations of R8 – the GT Spyder Mk1, the LMX Mk1, the R8 RWS Mk2, and the R8 Spyder Performance Mk2! The question is, will the newest car, the GT Mk2, snatch the win? Or will the lack of all-wheel drive prove decisive? There’s only one way to find out for sure… LET’S RACE!
