Bugatti’s modern identity is indelibly linked to the gargantuan 8.0-litre, quad-turbo, funny-shaped W16 engine that powered first the Veyron, and then the Chiron. But when times are a-changin’, how do you replace your headline act? For the new Tourbillon, Bugatti once again settled on 16 cylinders, but this time they’re in a ‘V’ configuration with not a turbo in sight. Displacement is a monster 8.3-litres, it’ll rev to 9,000rpm, and make 986bhp and 664lb ft before you add in 789bhp of electric assistance via three e-motors. The new V16 is engineered by Cosworth, the same British company that’s recently created V12s for the Aston Martin Valkyrie and GMA T.50.
