Mark Martin broke a 42-race winless streak by holding off Jeff Gordon late in the 1997 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway. The 1997 event was the last to run "The Carousel" until NASCAR and Sonoma Raceway announced it would return for the 2019 race on June 23rd. ———-
