The world’s most dangerous bridge for trucks
If US road bridges get bad for you, believe it might be worse, much worse. This is said to be the world’s most dangerous bridge because it is used by so crazy drivers only.
A very dangerous bridge for trucks
The bridges in the US are of good quality, just like roads that often lead them. They do not fix themselves continuously so that they are in the best condition and for the longest time they serve their purpose – problems with them go off when they really burn. With all the apparatus that feeds on our taxes, one would almost expect the existence of someone who will periodically check them and eventual problems begin to solve in time. But that does not happen if we learn regularly that the state of a bridge is suddenly found to be “emergency” and the only solution is its immediate closure.
With regard to what a bridge crash can cause, it’s upsetting, but you may find it a bit narrower when you see what’s going on elsewhere. And it is not a wild corner of the developing country, and a couple of donkeys with donkeys walk through it. It is a relatively mature Russia and a place that also uses heavy trucks as the link between two busy roads.
We are talking about a bridge over the river Vitim, which forms the border between Zabajkalsk Region and the Buryat Republic. So we are talking about southern Siberia, certainly not the most civilized place in the world, but still part of the Russian Federation. Here is something that hardly meets the definition of the word “bridge”, let alone to stand up against any safety regulations. Still, the bridge is not just the local one, they call it the most dangerous road bridge in the world.
It is 570 meters long and 15 meters high, so this is not a crumb. But in width, it measures only three meters, has no rails or barriers and actually does not have a normal bridge overhead. It used to be a common bridge, but it burned down and left only two-meter wide metallic foundation of the bridge structure. The authorities did not want to repair it or they could not, but the local ones did not want to give up the important links of the two banks. And so the bridge “got all right” by themselves.
The fire survivors of the traverses were placed in the old wooden railway sleepers and … it was basically everything. On the part of the bridge we can see the longitudinally placed planks, so that the wheels do not fit between the spaced sleeper, but nothing else has come here. And if you think there’s only a few local fools with old lads, you would be wrong. The bridge in this form serves as an important link for freight transport as well.
Below you can see what cars appear on the bridge – they are really heavy trucks. If drivers are local, they usually manage to cross-board themselves with the navigator, out-of-town drivers sometimes hire local drivers to cross the river Vitim. And as you can see, they manage with bravura, although there are only a few dozen centimeters of space on each side of the bridge, and the view from the car down to almost 20 meters down the river is unforgettable…
