We’ve finally got our hands on the new Mercedes-AMG SL 55, so of course, we had to take it for a drag race! We’ve got Mat lining up in the AMG, and alongside him, we have Yianni in a Porsche 911 GTS. Oh, and there's also a BMW M850i and a Jaguar F-Type R lining up for good measure! So let’s see how this set of convertibles compares. Starting with the AMG, it’s powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 that’s good for 476hp and 700Nm. It’s equipped with four-wheel-drive, tips the scales at 1,950kg, and costs an eye-watering £147,000! The Porsche is the lightest car in the line-up, weighing in at 1,615kg. It’s powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo flat-six that can deliver 480hp and 570Nm, but it may have a potentially significant disadvantage… It’s only equipped with RWD! Next up we have the BMW, with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can put down 530hp and 750Nm. It may have 4WD, but it’s also the heaviest car here, tipping the scales at 2,125kg! Then finally we have the Jag. With an awesome 5-litre Supercharged V8 under the bonnet, it can deliver 575hp and 700Nm. It’s also packing 4WD and weighs in at 1790kg. So how will this play out? Mat’s got his hands on the McMurtry Spéirling, and he’s about to find out if it can back up its claim of being the quickest accelerating road car ever made! Now before he even gets behind the wheel, you need to know that the McMurtry comes with a reputation! It's claimed the record as being the fastest car to complete the Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillclimb – beating an F1 car to the title by two whole seconds! But what makes this lightning-fast single-seater so special? Well, it comes with an incredible fan system that helps to generate 2,000kg of downforce! This means the McMurtry is not only super quick off the line, but it can take corners at speed with ease. In terms of power output, it has two electric motors that produce 1,000hp. Now you may not think that’s too impressive, given EVs such as the Rimac Nevera come with almost 2,000hp. However, whereas the Nevera weighs over 2 tonnes, the McMurtry Spéirling weighs less than one tonne!! Now, of course, all that power and performance doesn’t come cheap, costing just under £2,000,000. He’s already got up close & personal with the AMG C63, but the time has finally come for Mat to get behind the wheel and drive it! Now there’s no denying that the new C63 looks great! Up front, there are a number of design changes, including a newly designed front bumper that comes fitted with some huge air intakes, along with an updated bonnet that includes an all-new outlet vent. The good looks continue around the back, too, with a new deeper rear bumper coupled with an AMG-exclusive diffuser. There’s also a bootlip spoiler, coupled with the option to add carbon fibre trim, should you so wish. So it may look good, but there is one BIG talking point about this all-new AMG. The V8 is GONE, and it’s been replaced by a 2-litre 4-cylinder hybrid!! Don’t worry though, it’s not all bad. The power output has increased by 150hp, with the engine and electric motor combining to deliver 680hp and 1,020Nm of torque! It can also fly to 60mph in just 3.4 seconds… Although of course, Mat’s going to see if he can hit that mark even quicker! So what do you think – could this be the greatest AMG of all time?
