The time has finally arrived for Mat to get up close & personal with the new Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance! Now there’s no debating that the previous AMG C63 S was one of the best-looking performance saloons on the market, and the new model is no exception! A number of design changes have been made, with a newly designed front bumper that comes fitted with some huge air intakes, while on the bonnet there’s also an all-new outlet vent. The good looks continue around the back, too, with a new deeper rear bumper coupled with an AMG-exclusive diffuser. There’s also a bootlip spoiler, coupled with the option to add carbon fibre trim, should you so wish. So it all sounds pretty good, right? Well, there’s one key change that you AMG fanboys & fangirls may not like… The V8 has GONE, and it’s been replaced by a 2-litre 4-cylinder hybrid!! Don’t worry though, it’s not all bad. The power output has increased by 150hp, with the engine and electric motor combining to deliver 680hp and 1,020Nm of torque! It can also fly to 60mph in just 3.4 seconds. Now on paper, the RS e-tron GT should easily snatch the win. Its two electric motors provide four-wheel drive and combine to produce 646hp and 830Nm of torque. As a result, it’s the most powerful Audi you can buy in 2022! In comparison, the R8 comes with a 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 that’s good for 620hp and 580Nm of torque. So it’s no slouch, but ultimately it provides less power than the e-tron GT! However, there’s one key difference between these two cars. Whereas the R8 weighs in at 1,595kg, the RS e-tron GT is a whole lot heavier, tipping the scales at 2,345kg! So will the weight difference prove costly? First off, let’s see how these two beasts compare. Starting with the M5 CS, it’s powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can put down 635hp and 750Nm of torque. As you’d expect, it powers all four wheels and it tips the scales at 1,825kg. All that power doesn’t come cheap, though – it’ll set you back around £141,000! Next up we have the Porsche. It’s packing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet that’s good for 630hp and 820Nm of torque. It’s heavier than the BMW, though, at 2,080kg. However, it’s also ever so slightly cheaper, at around £140,000. So the Porsche is down on power and up on weight, so it’ll be an easy win for the BMW, right?
