Aston Martin Valkyrie vs The Real World

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uk5rkVf_QN0

The Valkyrie is Aston Martin’s F1 car for the road. Or is it? It was conceived when Aston was purely a Formula 1 sponsor, and designed with a little help from Red Bull and its soon-to-depart design genius Adrian Newey (who’s actually joining Aston’s own F1 team. Small world!). And while the Valkyrie has numberplates and headlights and a windscreen wiper, it’s about as single-minded a hypercar as there has ever been. Can you really use it on the road? Or is that marketing fluff? To find out, we set Top Gear Magazine’s Contributing Editor Jethro Bovingdon the onerous task of spending days and days in a £2.8m Valkyrie… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WANT MORE TOP GEAR?

Porsche 911 S/T Track Test – The Perfect 911?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-tI0IOQP90

The perfect Porsche 911 doesn’t exist, right? And even if it did, how do you pick from the ever-increasing list of great rear-engined Porsches? Are you a fan of the OG 2.7 RS? Or on the side of the 997-generation GT3 RS 4.0? What about the 911 R? That’s leaving aside all the race cars, too. And then there’s this, the 911 S/T. Built by Porsche (in limited numbers) to celebrate its 60th birthday, it mixes GT3 RS oily bits with GT3 Touring discreetness to give us, effectively, a successor to the 911 R. We already love it after driving it on the road (which is where it was designed to be) but can it stand up to being thrashed on track? And if so, where does that leave it standing in the pantheon of Porsche greatness. Over to Top Gear Magazine’s Head of Car Testing, Ollie Marriage, for this most arduous of tests… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WANT MORE TOP GEAR?

McMurtry Spéirling Pure: Full Top Gear Test Track Review!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPZxcfglU2Q

Downforce increases with speed, doesn’t it? Well, yes, unless you have a ‘fan car’, which sucks itself to the ground too. To date, it’s mainly been cars coming from Gordon Murray that have had fans: first his Brabham BT46B Formula 1 car; then his seminal McLaren F1 (did you know it had twin fans?); and most recently the T.50. But now there’s a new car that uses fans to devastating effect: the McMurtry Spéirling. It weighs 1000kg, produces 1000 electric horsepower, and the fans can spin at up to 23,000rpm to generate 2000kg of downforce from 0mph. You may know it from its record-breaking run at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it smashed a McLaren Formula 1 car’s time that had stood since 1999. Now though, it’s been to the Top Gear Test Track, to be put through its paces by Top Gear’s Head of Car Testing Ollie Marriage… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WATCH MORE TOP GEAR:

FIRST LOOK: Lotus Theory 1 – Can This New Supercar Save Lotus?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbKxc_i4if4

Lotus, always seemingly in a little financial trouble, hasn’t flourished under recent Geely ownership as its Chinese owners might have hoped. Deliveries of the Emira sports car were delayed; the Evija hypercar is yet to hit production; and the Eletre SUV and Emeya super-saloon have arrived just as the world is cooling on the idea of EVs. This then, the Theory 1, is concept car to grab your attention when times are tough. The company’s next production car will be a second, smaller electric SUV (think Porsche Macan-sized) so the Theory 1 is a kind of reminder that people at Lotus are still thinking about what it means to be a Lotus, past just wearing the badge. Thus the Theory 1 does everything from ushering in a new design language for Lotus, to showcasing a radical approach to production with just a handful of materials used for the bodywork. It also introduces us to ‘Lotuswear’, which is an attempt to ‘evoke a sense of raw emotion and pure excitement’ when you’re behind the wheel of this 1000hp electric supercar. How does it work? With seats that can inflate on one side or the other and a steering yoke that can suddenly be ribbed, thanks to textile-based wearable robotics tech being applied to the automotive sector for the first time. The Secret Koenigsegg You’ve Never Heard Of…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qHbRmW7Tc8

Once upon a time, a man called Christian created a car company called Koenigsegg. To prove his new cars were the best, he wanted to take them racing. Specifically at the 24 Hours of Le Mans – and so he designed his road cars to mirror FIA GT1 regulations. In parallel, he developed a racing car too, taking his optimised road car as the basis and readying it for battle at the world’s greatest endurance race. But, sadly, before it could turn a wheel in anger, the rules changed as homologation production numbers for the GT1 class jumped from 20 cars over several years to 350 per year, putting an end to Koenigsegg’s Le Mans ambitions. The project was mothballed, and the car sold to a Koenigsegg shareholder. However, the one-off CCGT prototype was auctioned in the summer of 2023 (for £3.3m. Imagine if it had raced at Le Mans…) and has been back to Christian and co for some restoration work. It’s now ready to hit the track once more and, whisper it, a regulation quirk might even mean it can finally race at Le Mans… Over to Top Gear Magazine’s Head of Car Testing, Ollie Marriage, and a certain Christian von Koenigsegg, for the full story… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WATCH MORE TOP GEAR:
