Mat’s flown over to the south of France for the ultimate Porsche road trip! He’s got his hands on what he believes to be the four best iterations of the Porsche 911, and he’s going to drive each of them on a 500-mile journey from Lyon all the way to Monaco to find out which takes the crown as the ultimate 911! So let’s look at what he’ll be driving, starting with the 911 Turbo S! We already know the Turbo packs a punch, as its 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six has taken down SO many competitors on the carwow drag strip. But take a step inside and despite being a true powerhouse, the 911 Turo is still so luxurious and comfortable. The version we have here is covered in leather and comes with super comfortable sports seats, and even though he’s set to encounter some twisty mountain roads on this route, it’s more than capable of handling these sorts of conditions. After the Turbo Mat will be jumping into the Dakar. It’s based on the 911 GTS, so it comes with a 3-litre twin-turbo flat-six that can produce 480hp and 570Nm. So of course it’s a bit down on power, but it comes with a whole load of modifications to make it really stand out. However, given it’s really built for off-roading, will it offer any sort of competition to the power and performance of the 911 Turbo when it comes to driving it on tarmac? Following this we have the Carrera T. It comes with the same 3-litre-twin turbo flat-six as the Dakar, but in this instance, it can only put down 385hp and 450Nm of torque. What’s more, it’s fitted with a 7-speed manual! It’s the cheapest car Mat will drive on this trip, with the price tag coming in at £106,000 – £9,000 more than the standard Carrera. So it comes with the standard Porsche look and feel on the inside, and it’s also super light, with the rear seats stripped out to really help enhance enjoyment on these twisty mountain roads. Then finally we have the daddy – the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS! It comes with a glorious 4-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six that can produce 525hp and 465Nm of torque. It weighs in at just 1,450kg, and you can imagine that it sounds absolutely epic when it’s running through the numerous mountain tunnels on this drive. The question is, can any of the other cars really compete with the new GT3 RS?! Or will it just enhance its name even more and prove to be the ultimate 911? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself! Chapters
