FIRST DRIVE: BMW M5 Touring – Now It Makes Sense!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0dH5LAJFy4

The future is heavy. So heavy that the new hybrid BMW M5 saloon weighs 35kg more than the non-hybrid X5 M SUV. And yet, could adding another 40kg – to turn M5 saloon into M5 Touring – suddenly make it the fast Five you want? See, a 2.5-tonne super-saloon doesn’t really work from a dynamic point of view. But, seen through the lens of fast, practical transport, can a booted version of the M5 makes sense? Sure, the M5 Touring is 75kg heavier than the equivalent M Division SUV (no, really!) but a lower centre of gravity will forever be a winner. Then there’s the kudos of driving a hot wagon, too. Is then, the M5 Touring the M5 to have? Over to Top Gear Magazine’s Tom Ford…

Audi Just Made A Three-Seat F1 Car… For The Road!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dE3FFSegd-8

There have been a few cars that have bought Formula 1 technology to the road, from the likes of the Ferrari F50 and McLaren F1, through to the Mercedes AMG One and the Aston Martin Valkyrie. But the first one was conceived way back in the 1930s… And it’s only just been finished! Why? Because Auto Union (now rolled into the Audi brand) came up with the idea to clothe its Grand Prix cars in sleek bodywork and sell them to rich folk. But it never got beyond the sketch phase – until Audi Tradition recently pulled out the original plans and decided to build the car, with every single part utterly bespoke. This then, is the priceless Auto Union Type 52, the newest, oldest ‘F1 car for the road’. Over to Top Gear Magazine’s Rowan Horncastle… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WANT MORE TOP GEAR?

The Best Performance Car Of 2024 Is…? Meet The Contenders

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkaPbU48oCw

It’s that most wonderful time of the year again. No, not Christmas, rather Top Gear Magazine’s Speed Week is once more upon us, the annual test where we gather the best performance cars from the past 12 months and see which stands head and shoulders above the pack. This year we decamped from Top Gear HQ to Spain. More specifically to the Navarra region in the north, which contains both the newly upgraded Circuito de Navarra, and well as one of the greatest roads in the world, nestled up high in the Pyrenean mountains. We spent a week conducting road and track testing, as well as filming, photographing and getting very little sleep. As for the cars, we took along not just one F1-car-for-the-road, but two (albeit they’re somehow separated by nearly 100 years…) and a whole host of other fast metal. The full list of contenders vying for the 2024 Speed Week crown is: Aston Martin Valkyrie, Porsche 911 S/T, Corvette Z06, McLaren 750S, Toyota GR Yaris, BMW M4 CS, Ariel Nomad 2, Audi RS6 GT, Range Rover Sport SV, Porsche 911 GTS, Aston Martin Vantage, and the Auto Union Type 52. Top Gear Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Jack Rix, provides us with all the details on these cars, but in the end, only one will be crowned as our Performance Car of the Year. Be sure to grab a copy of the magazine to discover which one that is! Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WANT MORE TOP GEAR?

FIRST DRIVE: Aston Martin Vanquish – 824bhp And Looks To Die For

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5m6UwWp4OA

Aston Martin aims to offer the most powerful cars in each segment it sells in. Which is a laudable goal, don’t get us wrong. But what happens when Porsche has a four-wheel drive 911 Turbo S up against the Vantage, and Ferrari only ever seems to push the peak power of its naturally aspirated V12s higher and higher? Well, you end up with a 656bhp Vantage that you’ll do well to tame, and this, the 824bhp Vanquish. You can thank a twin-turbo 5.2-litre V12 for all that power, plus the 737lb ft of torque, but is it all too much? Aston reckons not, thanks to a trick electronic rear diff, bespoke tyres, a body that’s 75% stiffer than the DBS 770 Ultimate, and a longer wheelbase – which also serves to put space between the front axle and A-pillar, for classic long-bonnet GT proportions. So, design and dynamics to die for, or still just all mouth and no trousers? Over to Top Gear Magazine’s Associate Editor, Tom Ford, for the verdict… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WANT MORE TOP GEAR?

FIRST DRIVE: New BMW M5 – Too Much Weight To Be Great?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cmr416JxS3o

There’s no getting away from the fact the new BMW M5 is a bit of a porker. The previous-generation super-saloon weighed 1895kg; this new one is 540kg more… Blame the plug-in, hybridised V8, which delivers more power (up 140bhp) and torque (up 184lb ft) than the last M5, and a parsimonious 160mpg+ on the WLTP fuel test. And while figures like those probably looked enticing when BMW started development years ago, enthusiasts aren’t exactly lapping up electrified performance cars in 2024… But, but, but… this is also an all-new BMW M5! It’s the stuff of legend, with a long legacy of always being top dog over and above rivals from Audi and Mercedes. And while there’s yet to be a new AMG version of the E-class, and Audi will soon end production of the RS6 and RS7, the M5 is here, and with a stonkingly powerful V8 too. Downsizing is not in effect! So, what really matters is what this new M5 is like behind the wheel. Insane Supercar Junkyard! The Disneyland Of Barn Finds…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyt8ZMZ2c7U

When you think of junk metal, you think crushed cans, warped construction beams and perhaps an old alloy wheel or two. What you don’t expect is perhaps the most incredible privately-owned collection of classic cars ever assembled — otherwise known as the Rudi Klein Collection. Klein never made his collection viewable to the public and as a result set into motion one of the car world’s great rumour mills. But now that it's coming up for auction, we know exactly what he pulled together! The collection features countless finds including a 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL 'Alloy' Gullwing, 1968 Lamborghini Miura P400 by Bertone, 1935 Mercedes-Benz 500 K 'Caracciola' Special Coupe by Sindelfingen, 1966 Ferrari 330 GTC by Pininfarina, 1962 Porsche 356 B 1600 'Twin-Grille' Roadster by D'Ieteren… Okay we think you get the idea, the list is… rather special indeed. Good job Top Gear’s Editor-in-Chief Jack Rix is on hand to walk you through this amazing collection. Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WANT MORE TOP GEAR?
