McLaren F1 & MP4/1 – Carbonfibre Pioneers!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMP7Oa713Sc

Carbonfibre has come a long way since its early days in the aerospace industry (and you’ll never guess where it was first used before that…). Now it’s everywhere in the automotive industry, from the chassis of high-end supercars to the dashboards of SUVs. McLaren famously pioneered the use of carbon in cars, first in Formula 1, then in the iconic F1 – though it didn’t actually build the first carbon Formula 1 racer or first carbon road car. Over to Top Gear’s Head of Car Testing, Ollie Marriage, for a history lesson… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WANT MORE TOP GEAR?

FIRST LOOK: Ford Mustang GTD – New Sub-7Min ‘Ring Monster

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svcRwn-g-0E

In the middle of 2023, Ford shocked the automotive world with the Mustang GTD, a wild race-car-for-the-road – yet the interior was MIA, some technical details remained under wraps, and the stated aim of lapping the Nürburgring in under seven minutes looked like a tall order. 18 months on though, and Ford has gotten its wildest ever ‘Stang around the infamous German circuit with a few seconds to spare – and reckons there’s more to come! We’ll drive the Mustang GTD later this year, but given it’s the first car from an American brand to complete a ‘Ring lap in under seven minutes, we thought the time was right for a deep dive now it’s all-but-finished. This is a thorough look, inside and out, around a very special Mustang, with the team leader behind the project. (Though forgive us for not mentioning the special ‘Spirit of America’ edition, as when we saw this exact car back in 2024, Ford wouldn’t disclose a single detail of what it was.) Over to Top Gear’s Contributing Editor, Jethro Bovingdon, to divulge all the details on the Ford Mustang GTD… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WANT MORE TOP GEAR?

FIRST LOOK: New Tesla Model Y – World’s Best-Selling Car Updated!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R31cwKpAT9c

The world’s best-selling car isn’t a Toyota, Honda or Nissan, nor a pick-up truck from the likes of Ford or Chevy. Instead, it’s a battery powered, mid-size crossover, from a brand that hasn’t been around for much more than 20 years. Which means a raft of mid-life updates to the Tesla Model Y are A BIG DEAL – whereas usually a nip ‘n’ tuck for a model a few years into its lifecycle wouldn’t move the needle. So, what changes are big, what changes are small, have they been successful, and will they be enough to keep Tesla atop the global sales chart? Over to Top Gear’s Associate Editor, Tom Ford, for the verdict… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WANT MORE TOP GEAR?

FIRST DRIVE: Land Rover Defender OCTA – We Try To Break It!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hf_ftpRLAkg

The Defender OCTA has piqued our interest ever since a viral video showed a prototype smoking a four-wheel drift around the Nürburgring. The definitive spec proved no less enticing: it’s the most powerful Defender ever, with a 635hp V8; Land Rover has raised it by 28mm and widened it by 68mm; braking is by Brembo; and the hydraulically interlinked ‘6D Dynamics’ suspension is akin to a top-end McLaren. And now we get to drive it, thrashing it over the toughest trails that South Africa can throw at it. Does it live up to its billing as ‘the most extreme Defender ever’? Or does it break under duress? Over to Top Gear’s Editor-in-Chief, Jack Rix, for the verdict… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WANT MORE TOP GEAR?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqPJkaKSIg0

A decade or so on from the fuss and furore that occurred when Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche all launched hybrid hypercars – the LaFerrari, P1 and 918 Spyder, respectively – the trio are at it again. This ‘second coming’ of the so-called ‘Holy Trinity’ has been long awaited – and we’ll have to wait a little longer until they all reach production fruition. But, in the meantime, given Top Gear has seen and sat in the new Ferrari F80, new McLaren W1, and the Porsche Mission X concept, we thought we’d put together a little compare-and-contrast video. Here then, is Top Gear Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Jack Rix, and Head of Car Testing, Ollie Marriage, sorting through the similarities and differences between the F80, W1 and Mission X… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WANT MORE TOP GEAR?
