In recent years, the hot hatch has become rather rarefied. Both literally and figuratively: RS Renaults and GTi Peugeots are dead, while the likes of Audi and Mercedes chase outputs of 400bhp. The Mini Cooper though, was always a little more grounded. And now there’s a new one! This generation of Mini three-door hatch comes with a choice of petrol or electricity driving the front wheels, with two variants of each. Pick from Cooper C and Cooper S if you like pistons, while Cooper E and SE are the battery and motor offerings. The Cooper SE starts at £34,500, rising to £38k if you want the butcher body of the Sport model we’re driving, and offers 215bhp, 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds, and a WLTP range of nearly 250 miles. The Cullinan, Rolls-Royce’s controversial super-luxury SUV (at least to those who can’t afford one) is now its most popular model, and has been given a mid-life tickle-up.
 
The changes for the Cullinan Series II are driven by the evolving Rolls customer, who is just 43 in 2024. And that younger customer wants, says Rolls, ‘bolder forms of self-expression’. On the outside that means new vertical daytime running lights, an illuminated ‘Pantheon’ grille and 23in wheels.
 
Inside, the luxe is dialled up even more, with the likes of a bamboo-based ‘Duality Twill’ interior that has up to 2.2 MILLION stitches and 11 MILES of thread, while ‘Placed Perforation’ seats create imagery through the position of over 100,000 tiny holes.
 
There’s also a Cullinan Black Badge model from the get-go, again determined by that younger customer: when the Cullinan was launched in 2018, over 30% were chauffeur driven; today, it’s less than 10%. There’s more power than standard, an uprated chassis, and no shiny chrome.

The Italian language is very good – molto bene – at turning simple car names into lyrical poetry. ‘Four doors’ becomes ‘Quattroporte’. ‘Red head’ becomes ‘Testarossa’. And so, while this new Ferrari is called the 12 Cylinder, Maranello would prefer you wrapped your lips around their way of talking, and called it the Dodici Cilindri. (But, Because Marketing, the name is written out as 12Cilindri.) It’s an on-the-nose celebration of Ferrari’s signature dish: a big V12. A mighty 6.5-litre instrument, mounted way behind the front axle, and under a gigantic clamshell ‘cofango’ bonnet designed to showcase the engine bay more dramatically than the 812 Superfast or F12. Job done… Looks wise, there are hints of 365 Daytona at the front. There are also active aero flaps at the rear. Inside, Ferrari’s gone fully screen-gaga and deleted all the buttons. Good luck tuning the radio when 814bhp arrives at the rear wheels before the tyres are warm ‘n’ sticky. Unusually, Ferrari has revealed the €425,000 Spider drop-top along with the €390,000 coupe.
