Need For Swede: Japan’s Emerging Volvo Obsession Old Volvos: cool or nah?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPmYQ9Z1G8o

Japan’s car culture is eclectic – but no one expected this! A new niche is emerging… and it involves old Volvo barges. Specifically, Volvo 200 Series ‘bricks’, the matronly saloons and estates that peppered European middle-class driveways from 1974 to the early ‘90s. That's right, the chunky cardigans of the car world have a fan club. And we’re talking stock items here too, none of that modified malarky. Yet it’s that utter ordinariness that makes these Volvoisti smile. They love these cars, and don’t care what anyone else thinks. Time for Top Gear Magazine's Tom Ford to embrace the slow life… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WATCH MORE TOP GEAR:

FIRST LOOK: Lucid Gravity SUV + Prototype Drive

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMevPtSTkfg

You'll know Lucid from its ultra-spacious, slippery Air saloon, which can hit 60 in 1.9 seconds and is very probably the best-handling electric family car on sale today. 10 out of 10, no notes. So, how does the new Gravity SUV – Lucid's difficult second album – stack up? Well, it's a little early for a full drive (stick around for a drive of the prototype later in the video) but here's what we do know. It'll use the next generation of Lucid tiny-but mighty bespoke motors. There’s a 900-volt architecture for fast charging speeds, and it'll be able to accelerate to 60mph in less than 3.5sec in the quicker versions. Base models will start from $74k, with 'around 800bhp.' Inside there’s screens galore, and four rows of seats (sort of). All very impressive. All very Tesla, you might think. But what sets Lucid apart? Join TG’s Ollie Kew for a deep-dive into the clever thinking behind the Lucid Gravity. Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WATCH MORE TOP GEAR:

NEW Mazda RX-7! Meet The Rotary-Engined Mazda Iconic SP

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxc-moAbid8

It’s called the Mazda Iconic SP, a compact, classically proportioned sportscar built to simply embody “the joy of driving”. The fundamentals are fairly straightforward. There’s a rotary engine featuring twin rotors, though here – as in the MX-30 R-EV – it’s used merely to charge the battery which in turn powers the electric motors. As ever with most things with batteries and motors, it’ll be pretty powerful, but slightly heavier than you expect; Power is quoted at 365bhp, weight at 1,450kg. So it’ll be fast but not silly. So, is the Iconic SP more son-of-RX-7? Top Gear Magazine's Tom Ford takes a closer look. Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WATCH MORE TOP GEAR:

Volvo 850R ITB’d Naturally-Aspirated BTCC Build | American Tuned ft. Rob Dahm

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1Ye6Ip4Lfg

It’s safety first as Rob Dahm explores the weird world of Volvo tuning, with an $850 Volvo 850R estate that’s been transformed into a touring-car tribute – 1990s livery and all. Surely you’ve seen that iconic photo of Dutch racing driver Jan Lammers? It’s an action shot capturing an incongruous Volvo 850 Estate in British Touring Car Championship trim, two wheels suspended above a bit of curbing, with Lammers at the wheel coaxing it in for a landing. A flying brick, to be sure. Rob heads to the Lime Rock Park proving grounds to compare a bone-stock 850 with one that’s been modified by the guys at FCP Euro. This Volvo 850R may be a bit of a Volvo nerd’s breakfast, but it demonstrates how an ordinary family car can, in the right hands, be transformed into something quite extraordinary, embodying the passion and creativity at the heart of car tuning.
