FIRST LOOK: Porsche Taycan Turbo GT – Smashes Tesla’s Lap Record AGAIN!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTh0hEwH1Do

The Porsche Taycan Turbo S is already absurdly fast – but now it’s been beaten. By Porsche. To battle the likes of the Tesla Model S Plaud and Lucid Air Sapphire, Stuttgart has cooked up the Taycan Turbo GT, capable of 0-62mph in as little as 2.2 seconds. Yep. Absurd. It remains dependent on a dual-motor (rather than tri-motor) set-up, but can generate up to 1,108hp in its ‘Attack’ mode, and go all the way to 190mph. It’s lapped the Nürburgring in 7mins 7sec and has now destroyed Tesla’s record around California’s best racetrack: Laguna Seca. Top Gear’s Ollie Kew was there to witness the record being set, give a tour of the new super-Taycan, and have a passenger ride in the record car with Porsche’s lap time hero, Lars Kern. It’s a hugely impressive machine (the Turbo GT, not Lars), but is it one the world actually needed? Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WATCH MORE TOP GEAR:

FIRST LOOK: Cadillac Celestiq – America’s £300k Rolls-Royce And Bentley Rival

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnkIVRSshJA

You’re looking at the most luxurious Cadillac ever, the new £300k Celestiq, a limousine leviathan aimed squarely at Rolls-Royce and Bentley. What do you get for all that money? The most technologically advanced vehicle in Cadillac’s history, which means everything from a 55-inch HD screen across the dash, via trick chassis systems, to active aero. It also rides on GM’s Ultium Platform, a dedicated EV architecture that in Celestiq guise mates an 111kWh battery with two motors, for four-wheel drive and over 600bhp. Tech is only half the story though. Each Celestiq will be hand-built at the new Artisan Center, at General Motors’ Global Technical Center campus, in Michigan, USA. And only after each one has been customised by the owner – in collaboration from Caddy’s designers – at the nearby Cadillac House at Vanderbilt. It’s an ultimate flagship to lead Caddy into the electric era, so we sent Top Gear’s deputy editor Ollie Kew over to America to take a look. FIRST LOOK: Rivian R2 (and R3!) | $45k Tesla Model Y Slayer

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiGtt-kZ3Es

Not one, not two, but three new Rivian electric crossovers have just been unveiled. Up first (and expected) is the R2, a shrunken follow-up to the full-size R1T and R1S that originally launched the Rivian brand. It’s the first vehicle on their new ‘mid-size’ platform, so think of it as Rivian’s Tesla Model Y rival. It’ll come in single-, dual- and tri-motor forms, with pricing from around $45,000 when deliveries kick off in the first half of 2026. It’ll eventually make its way to Europe, too. The surprises at the launch event in California, USA were the R3 and R3X. Also built on the new platform, they’re smaller again than the R2 and are more akin to raised-up hatchbacks. We won’t see them until at least 2027, but the R3 should come in under $40,000, while the R3X is the performance version, with a tri-motor set-up for 0-62mph in under three seconds. It's a lot to take in, not least for Top Gear Magazine’s editor-in-chief, Jack Rix, who got a sneak peek of the R2, R3 and R3X ahead of the official unveil. Join him for a breathless tour of what lies ahead for Rivian. Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WATCH MORE TOP GEAR:

RIP Dodge Challenger V8: Goodbye To America’s Maddest Muscle Car

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlQk9wnqhO8

On 22nd December 2023, the last Dodge Challenger of this generation rolled off the (Canadian) production line. In its 15-year life Dodge sold 857,000 of them, steadily ramping up the power, the menace, the outrageousness – creating a 21st Century muscle car legend. The final limited run of 300 cars pays tribute to a Challenger from a previous life: the street racing ‘Black Ghost’ of 1970s Michigan. Top Gear Magazine’s Ollie Kew has been to California to drive it, and to Detroit to hear the Black Ghost’s story. It’s one last hurrah for the V8 Dodge, before an awkward question: how do you go about replacing a car so characterful with something electric? For more on the Black Ghost – and to read about it facing off against the Ford Mustang Dark Horse – pick up the April 2024 issue of TopGear magazine in newsagents or on Apple News+. Ad Feature: How Audi Won The Iconic Dakar Rally

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FV4MviSE_RE

Three years ago, Audi had never competed in Rally Raid, the hardcore, Ironman-loving sibling of stage rally, let alone the iconic but gruelling two-week-long Dakar Rally. But Audi, having pushed boundaries and conquered multiple motorsport disciplines throughout its history (including endurance racing and Le Mans, rallying, DTM, IMSA and Formula E) wasn’t afraid of a challenge. In fact, it fancied making one of the toughest races in the world tougher. The project aimed to be the first car manufacturer to use an electrified drivetrain in combination with an efficient energy converter to compete for overall victory against conventionally powered competitors in the world’s toughest rally. No mean feat, especially as it’s only had three years to bring this brain-melting complex motorsport programme together. From nothing. But on January 19 2024, Carlos Sainz and Lucas Cruz secured Audi’s first victory in the Dakar Rally. It’s the first time a car with electrified drive has won the world’s toughest desert rally. Here’s how the famous four rings made motorsport history *This vehicle shown here is the Rally Dakar vehicle that is not available as a production model. Closed course, professional driver. Do not attempt. The Audi RS Q e-tron combines an electric drivetrain with an energy converter system comprising a TFSI engine and generator. **This is an Advertisement Feature by Audi** Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WATCH MORE TOP GEAR:

New Lexus LFA! Hyper-GT Concept Previews Next Halo Model

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-v7E9uyB_s

As difficult second albums go, creating a follow-up to the mighty Lexus LFA is utterly unenviable. In no small part because that legendary car’s identity consisted largely of its naturally aspirated V10 engine, which made a noise that could make F1 cars blush. This, the Lexus Electrified Sport concept, won’t do that – but it isn’t stopping Lexus from using it to try and figure out how a future hyper-GT might at least hold a candle to its howling predecessor. For Lexus, that means creating a connection to the driver. It’s experimenting with manual gearboxes in electric cars, a joyous interaction that flies in the face of the zeitgeist for speed and efficiency. We’re talking trick four-wheel drive too, and steer-by-wire for added agility. Mega four-figure power outputs and silly acceleration are a given, but Lexus is developing a next-generation high-performance battery that will be thinner and lighter too. Top Gear Magazine's Tom Ford takes a closer look. Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WATCH MORE TOP GEAR:

ABT XGT: The R8 Audi Didn’t Have The Guts To Make!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJKF4KHQWvM

This collection of wings and carbonfibre might be the purest expression of a ‘race car for the road’ since the McLaren F1 LM. Why? Because it’s not a road car that does a decent job on a circuit, like an Aston Martin Valkyrie. Nor is it a road car turned track car, a la the Ferrari FXX-K. Instead, this is a proper race car with number plates. And it’s no one-off either, as ABT plan to build 99. At over £600k a pop… It is an ABT too, because the work done to legalise this R8 LMS GT2 is so extensive that it no longer wears an Audi VIN plate – ABT is certified as the manufacturer. Rightly so, because to jump through the strict hoops demanded for German TÜV certification took Abt two years. We’re not just talking indicators and number plates either – they’ve had to crash test one of these. Twice. Is it still a race car? Is it now any good on the road? TG’s Head of Car Testing, Ollie Marriage, is your guide… Subscribe to Top Gear for more videos: http://bit.ly/SubscribeToTopGear WATCH MORE TOP GEAR:
